Different blind structures will affect your play depending on the type of game your poker playing. Say you’re playing in a 9 man SnG tournament, you’ll be playing extra tight early as the blinds aren’t worth as much. But what about a turbo 18 man tourney. Well, you’ll still be playing tight, but not as tight since you have more poker players to go through. And you can follow this principle depending on then number of online poker players and the rate at which the blinds increase. If the blinds are doubling every 5 minutes, you want to keep about 100 bbs for each blind increase. If they’re doubling every 10 minutes, the thought is the same, but it’s easier to do as you can play less hands to get there. Big MTTs have a plague at the beginning, however, and I’m going to warn you of them here. First is the All-in ers. They’re everywhere, especially in the freerolls. They think that by risking it all on a heavy gamble up front, they’ll be better off later. But the majority of these people get put out. Just sit and watch a few tourneys and you’ll see that the All-in from the get go is not the best idea. Instead, you just play your cards. Play TAG poker and try to double your blinds as many times as possible. After all you’re not going to win every tournament, but you can increase the variance in your favor if you play them better than your opponents, obviously.

It’s established that stealing blinds is a necessary part of any poker player’s game. Stealing blinds keeps you in the casino online and makes your opponents more tentative when they play poker against you. While it can replenish and sometimes build up your chip stack, attempting to steal blinds can also help to break you if it’s done against the wrong opponents, so it pays to know from whom you’re stealing. Some players refuse to give up their blinds, so unless you’ve got a strong starting hand, there’s no point in trying to buy their blinds. It’s annoying, but you should be able to recognize early in the game who these players are, so you can avoid an ill-fated stealing attempt.
A bit more complicated is the situation when someone acting after you places a re-raise. It’s not an ideal situation, but don’t panic just yet. When you get re-raised, sit back and assess the player. Is he usually a passive player? If so, the solution is simple-he’s probably got the cards to beat you and folding would be a smart move. If he’s usually aggressive, then he could be attempting to call your bluff and scare you out. Could be a good idea to fold unless you’ve got a good pair in your hand.

Making sure you are aware of how deep you are playing, as well as how many chips your opponents have in something you should pay careful attention to. This is easier to do in online poker. When calculating pot odds decisions both pre and post flop, it is in your best interest to know exactly where you stand relative to your opponents.
Stack sizes are relevant in that if you are short stacked, it might make sense to just get it all in pre flop rather than being stuck with a difficult post flop decision with a hand like pocket tens with two over cards hitting the flop. You don’t want to find yourself pot-committed knowing you are a four to one underdog or worse. If you are incredibly deep stacked against another opponent with a lot behind, defining your strength rather than being tricky and slow playing is a much wiser option. By defining the strength of your poker hand, you will have an easier time knowing where you are at, and won’t allow yourself to get in over your head with only one pair.
When deep stacked, you can either carefully navigate around any other poker players who have large stacks, or if you are the only deep stacked player, you can use your chips to bully around other players. This is a fairly common practice in tournament play, but in cash games it isn’t as effective, as there is no rush for players to get all in with escalating blinds pushing their hand.
When you sit down to play Texas Hold’em or any other no limit game, know that the size of your stack is just as relevant as the cards in your hand. You don’t necessarily need to have a large stack, but you do need to know how to use it to extract the most money from your opponents on any given hand. Carefully studying strategies of winning players will allow you to craft short stack and deep stack play methodologies that best fit your individual poker skill set.

We have a term, in poker lingo, for people who are considered “easy-money.” If poker is a game for the sharks, then we all have to eat. And seeing as how no shark is a vegetarian, the only thing left for us to eat is the fish.
Good for you, that these fish like to flop out of the water, making them really easy to catch, and even tastier the fatter they (or their wallets) are.
Maybe you can think back to one of those pokergames, you remember that one guy who seemed to have bottomless bank accounts, and just kept giving away his money. Or at least that’s what it looked like. Well my friends, these are our food, our fish.
They come in two flavors; there’s the fat fish you want to keep in your own personal aquarium, and the one who just hasn’t evolved to survive in the ocean.
We’ll talk about the fat fish first. This is your business man type, your not-too-serious-about-playing-and-is-just-here-for-a-good-time type of player. He enjoys the game for the game, not so much for the money involved. He likes cutting up with the crew, just hanging out with everyone and isn’t one to pout or complain too much if he’s losing. After all, it’s just cash to him. And if you’re just looking to have fun and enjoy the game, it should be that to you too.
But I digress, it’s not about the philosophy of money, it’s about the pokerfish. So, carrying on. These are the type of fish you like to have your aquarium stocked with. If you’re hosting a poker game, it’s good to invite this person, for he’ll make a lot of people happy giving up his money.
