Let the First Grand Slam Tennis Event of the Year Get Going!!
Aussie Open is now Live!!
Here are some our city tennis leagues for 2010:
Santa Clara Tennis, Baltimore Tennis, Charlotte Tennis
Stimulating times for players even the ones stuck in the cold. Who do you see winning the Aussie Open in 2010, perennial favorites; Federer, Nadal or perhaps Murray. Or possibly an upset from a player who is just playing better than the rest of the draw right nowadays like Del Potro, Roddick or perhaps Djokovic?
On the Women’s Side it could be any one of a number of possible players: Henin, Venus Williams, Serena Williams, perhaps Safina, Clijsters, Jankovic or everyone’s hopeful Ana Ivanovic. Day 1 results are already in and Maria Sharapova has already been ousted from the tourney by her fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko.
All we really know is that there will be some exciting tennis, some lasting memories and the internal want for ourselves to get out on the courts and play.
Here’s some Day 1 Results:
Former top-ranked Maria Sharapova was a surprise 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-4 loser Monday to fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko.
U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro beat American Michael Russell 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 and No. 5 Andy Murray defeated South Africa’s Kevin Anderson 6-1, 6-1, 6-2.
Later Monday, another former No. 1 also on the comeback trail, seven-time Grand Slam singles winner Henin, advanced with a 6-4, 6-3 win over fellow Belgian Kirsten Flipkens. Henin lost to Clijsters in the Brisbane International final 10 days ago in her return to the tour.
Henin’s next match is against fifth-seeded Elena Dementieva, who downed Vera Dushevina 6-2, 6-1.
In other women’s play, last year’s finalist, second-seeded Dinara Safina, won her first-round match, beating Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia 6-4, 6-4. Two other Russians also won — No. 3 and French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova beat Anastasia Rodionova of Australia 6-1, 6-2.
