Blind Structures
Different blind structures will affect your play depending on the type of game your poker playing. Say you’re playing in a 9 man SnG tournament, you’ll be playing extra tight early as the blinds aren’t worth as much. But what about a turbo 18 man tourney. Well, you’ll still be playing tight, but not as tight since you have more poker players to go through. And you can follow this principle depending on then number of online poker players and the rate at which the blinds increase. If the blinds are doubling every 5 minutes, you want to keep about 100 bbs for each blind increase. If they’re doubling every 10 minutes, the thought is the same, but it’s easier to do as you can play less hands to get there. Big MTTs have a plague at the beginning, however, and I’m going to warn you of them here. First is the All-in ers. They’re everywhere, especially in the freerolls. They think that by risking it all on a heavy gamble up front, they’ll be better off later. But the majority of these people get put out. Just sit and watch a few tourneys and you’ll see that the All-in from the get go is not the best idea. Instead, you just play your cards. Play TAG poker and try to double your blinds as many times as possible. After all you’re not going to win every tournament, but you can increase the variance in your favor if you play them better than your opponents, obviously.
